Betara Field Development

Our client, PetroChina International Jabung, wanted to bring oil and gas from its Betara offshore field to processing facilities in north east Jambi, Sumatra. The main contractor, PT Sempec Indonesia, subcontracted all subsea pipeline work to Acergy. This included the installation of 10”, 8” and 6” pipelines all approximately 11 kilometres long, in water depths to 25 metres. The project also called for pipeline burial, installation of risers and dog legs at the breasting and mooring dolphins and pre-commissioning – pigging and hydrotesting. The ultra-shallow depths at which much of the work was to be carried out presented the biggest challenge. It was only by designing and custom-equipping a 120’ shallow draft barge that we were able to successfully complete the project to the client’s satisfaction.
