Girassol

The Girassol project launched the deepwater era off Angola, with Acergy heavily involved every step of the way. We built the three Hyperflow® Riser Towers the project called for at Sonamet in Angola, together with the anchors, the FPSO and many other items. The offshore loading buoy – at the time the largest in the world – was also fabricated at Sonamet.

The Hyperflow® Riser Towers – with a length of 1350 metres – were sub-sea towed by us to the site and latched to their lock systems by tipping the foot of the towers – another world first. Each tower was connected to its flowlines using the remotely operated Matis system, specially developed by Acergy for the project. First oil started to flow in December 2001 – and the field has been running free of flow-assurance problems ever since.
