Innovation |
Our proprietary technologies are the result of a long term innovation and development programme focused on solving real-life problems we face in the field. It was the challenge of bringing oil and gas to the surface from ultra deepwater fields that led to the development of our Hyperflow Riser Tower, and MATIS. The Hyperflow Riser Tower™ Developed on the award-winning Total Girassol project in waters nearly 1500 metres deep off the Angolan coast, Hyperflow is now being adapted for use in a similar BP field. The system solves flow problems associated with ultra deepwater resources, particularly those caused by low temperatures. The Hyperflow Riser Tower™ is self-supporting providing a practical, proven means to reach deeper beneath the ocean than ever before. MATIS™ Flanges are by far the most common way underwater to make pipe connections but, until the arrival of MATIS, their use was restricted to shallow water fields Today MATIS allows pipes and flanges to be remotely aligned in waters up to 3000 metres deep Research and development is coordinated centrally but is never a remote, isolated function within our organisation. It is an integral part of every project in every region. Our engineers and technical experts constantly seek to innovate existing technology to solve the problems posed by operating at the limits of exploration and extraction capacity. |
