Built in 1985 as a 64 m supply ship, the Acergy Legend (previously the Laney Chouest) underwent a major conversion in 1988 to support a long-term contract for the U.S. government. This included lengthening and fitting of sponsons and thruster installation. Also during the conversion to the naval support role, additional accommodation, a global positioning system, a large A-frame and workshop/hangar were added to support the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicles for the U.S. Navy.
Since joining the Acergy fleet she has been outfitted with an updated dynamic positioning system and has been modified to support deepwater offshore projects including:
• ROV services to 3000 m
• Trenching and pipeline burial to 2100 m
• Suction anchor deployment
• Subsea completions
• Pipeline remediation
• General construction services
