Energy Bridge STL Buoy Installation

The aim of the Energy Bridge STL Buoy Installation project was to create the gas industry’s first offshore LNG deepwater port terminal in the USA, enabling natural gas from LNG carriers to be directly offloaded to the on-shore gas network via a subsea pipeline. We were contracted to undertake the installation work.

The project presented significant challenges, not least a requirement for the largest lift ever performed by the Acergy Eagle. The project team developed detailed engineering and installation procedures and selected specific weather windows for the heavy lifts, to which Offshore Installation were required to adhere. Extensive engineering and research packages were prepared and presented to U.S. Coast Guard, to gain approval for the Acergy Eagle’s Saturation Dive System. Difficult 5” Chain/Wire Cable link subsea connections were achieved by the design and fabrication of a bespoke tool.

The installation went smoothly with no incidents and the project was completed successfully and on schedule.
