Santos Casino
The Santos Casino project succeeded in bringing offshore gas from the Casino field to the coast of Australia for onshore processing and onward sale. Our role was to install and tie-in a 32-kilometre 12” pipeline, and two umbilicals. We also carried out pre-commissioning and testing and installed 450 concrete mattresses to stabilise the pipeline and umbilicals.
Working in Australia presented unique challenges of its own – not least the complex regulatory environment and the highly unionised local labour force. Because the project involved similar competencies to the North Sea, operational control was managed from our Aberdeen office, in partnership with our regional offices in Singapore and Perth. Five staff were transferred from the UK to form the nucleus of a local team, and were in daily contact with the rest of the project team back in Aberdeen – despite the 8-hour time difference.
